A Diver's Paradise on Maui

Bill, Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa

Here on Maui, there's nothing more exhilarating yet relaxing than scuba diving off the backside of Molokini Crater, a sunken volcano.

When I am 140 feet underwater, I am mesmerized by the whales verberating song. Listening to the whales communicate is like listening to music. There are also so many different pelagic fish and marine life to see. It's a tranquil experience. Winter season is when the humpback whales return to Hawaii from the North Pacific between November and April.

Another spot I like to on Maui is Black Rock but this time it's night diving. The thrill of seeing so many different marine life, especially the eels that feed at night. They all come out in droves. No fear, just calm and tranquility.

Once a year, my family and I take care of our precious Hawaiian coral reef by cleaning up.

I've been diving since 1988 and have gone on scuba diving trips to tropical locales such as Bali and Fiji. I also dived off the East Coast and I couldn't see through the brown, murky water. Nothing beats Hawaii for its variety in diving, especially Maui!

I'm looking forward to the whales returning to Maui in November. My favorite guidebook for finding whale watching spots is the Maui Trailblazer. I just bought an expensive pair of binoculars and will join the whale count group this year. This will be my fourth visit to the Marriott. I've been following the www.trailblazerhawaii.com blog for island hopping ideas. Kauai might be in the cards.
