Toasting Hawaii's Statehood in the Big Apple

Elliot, Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club

The 50th anniversary of Hawaii’s statehood was not only celebrated last month in the islands but also thousands of miles away in New York City, where we threw an intimate party on Friday, August 21st.

Held on the rooftop terrace at the posh Ritz-Carlton Battery Park, the soiree attracted a list of who’s who of New York media, including Nick Scandalios of Nederlander Organization, Brenda Rivera and Mike Woods of Fox TV5 NY, Paula Froehlich, Donna Marino Wilkins, Donna Heiderstadt, Sarah Hanson, Stephanie Schwalb, Neil Parmar, Laura Manske, Kay Lim, Patrick Lee, Mario Mercado, John Newton and Paul Guanzon.

Ed Hubennette, vice president of Marriott International – North Asia, Hawaii and South Pacific, hosted the reception. He announced the start of our "Tweet Yourself to Hawaii" sweepstakes that is giving away free trips to Hawaii via social media networks.

We were honored to have guest Chef Bev Gannon of Haliimaile General Store from Maui prepare the onolicious pupu menu.

And what’s a party without entertainment by Keo Woolford of Robert Cazimero’s hula halau.

That day also happened to be the birthday of Elizabeth Caminiti of Marriott International so we had two reasons to celebrate!

We enjoyed meeting with New York’s media elite and welcome them to our islands anytime!
