Honoring Scott Ashworth, Marriott's 2009 Golf Professional of the Year

Jolene, Kauai Marriott Resort on Kalapaki Beach

Scott Ashworth, PGA director of golf at the world-class Kauai Lagoons, was prestigiously named Marriott's 2009 Golf Professional of the Year! He graciously accepted the award on behalf of his team saying, "This is not an individual award for me. This goes to everyone here." He thanked the golf grounds crew and the golf shop team and added, "the amount we've had to adapt and change and to see everyone do it and be genuinely nice to each other is pretty cool. I'm so proud of this team for sticking together in these really tough times."

Here's Kauai Area General Manager Brad Snyder, Scott, Scott's wife Tanya, and Marriott's Senior Vice President of Golf Bill Nault.

Ashworth

Scott was the chosen golf professional from 60 golf courses in 45 different locations in 15 different countries. His dedication to the sport of golf as well as to the community set him apart from the other nominees. He started the Jr. golf program at Kauai Lagoons, helped raise money through the Patriot Day tournament, as well as raised money for the Children's Miracle Network at Kauai Lagoons. Scott was previously awarded the PGA's Horton Smith Award which is awarded to a golf professional for outstanding and continuing contributions to the PGA's educational programs. He received the PGA's Strausbaugh Award for mentoring fellow PGA professionals, and was also the recipient of the Aloha Section of the PGA's Golf Professional of the Year.

Scott's goal is to offer the premier golf experience in Hawaii as envisioned and designed by history’s greatest golfer, Jack Nicklaus. He takes pride in the uniqueness of the Kauai Lagoons Golf Course, from its secluded location with a surrounding lagoon and mature landscaping, to four oceanfront holes, fairways amid a mango forest, and beautiful mountain views.

Kauai Lagoons

Kauai Lagoons Golf Club is making enhancements to its crown jewel - the Kiele Course. Upon completion, the new Kiele Course will boast more ocean holes than any other course in Hawaii. In the meantime, golfers can enjoy a memorable and well manicured 18-hole layout comprised of a mix of former Mokihana and Kiele holes. The Kiele holes include the front 9 in its entirety, the signature 16th that plays along the ocean's edge, the par 3 17th and the island green 18th that Jack Nicklaus named the Golden Bear. Six great Mokihana holes round out the 18.

Congratulations, Scott!
