May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii

Brian, JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa

May 1st is a significant day in Hawaii. Known as lei day, it's a time to give, receive and share the aloha spirit with our friends and family. And we here at JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa want to celebrate lei day with our guests by having a Lei Day ceremony.

It began a few days before May 1st with our hard-working associates who took time out of their busy schedules to sew nearly 200 orchid lei.

Roger and Donna string orchid flowers to make beautiful lei.

On Saturday May 1st, the associates and guests gathered in our lobby at 10 a.m.

To start the ceremony, the associates presented the lei to guests as a gesture of aloha.

Guests were then entertained by associates who performed Hawaiian music and danced the hula.

Along with the performances, our associates also set up arts and crafts for children as well as demonstrations such as poi pounding.

Some guests were even brave enough to go up front and get a special hula lesson from our dancers!

Then, as the group sang "May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii," associates dropped flower petals from the higher floors down to the lobby! It was raining flowers!

To wrap it up, everyone held hands and sand "Hawaii Aloha."

Mahalo to our dedicated associates and General Manager Dan Banchiu for putting on a great Lei Day celebration for our guests!

Happy Lei Day everyone!
