My mom has been working at JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa since the year 2000. She raised our family with the support of this job. She really loves working for Marriott and enjoys her job so much that she encouraged me to begin my career here in 2005. We have both worked in various departments.
Recently, I was considering a supervisory position in the Housekeeping Department where my mom worked. However, in order for me to qualify for the position, my mom would have to give up her housekeeping job along with the seniority benefits earned throughout the years. My mom did not want to hinder my opportunity to be promoted due to a conflict of interest with family members working in the same department, and unselfishly and graciously transferred to a position in stewarding – washing dishes! All this to enable my career to grow.
Good things really do happen to good people, because most recently my mom was blessed with a full-time hostess position in the hotel’s restaurant and she is now able to do a job that she is wonderful at and absolutely loves! Things couldn’t have worked out more perfectly for both of us!

Mother’s Day is a special day in which we celebrate that special mom in one’s life. As for my mom, I would describe her as thoughtful, energetic, always smiling and a hardworking person who always puts herself last, putting others first. I am grateful to follow in the guest service field like my mom, and continue in her footsteps here at Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.
