Marriott Hawaii Hungry to Be a Part of the World's Largest Thai Dinner

Tom Yam Kung. Som Tam. Kung Pad Tua. Sankhaya. These were the makings of a sumptuous four-course Thai menu by Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa Executive Chef Miles Togikawa on October 20th for Marriott International's "World's Largest Thai Dinner party," part of Global Customer Appreciation Week. Waikiki Beach Marriott and Kauai Marriott Resort on Kalapaki Beach joined more than 100 Marriott hotels worldwide in hopes of setting a Guinness World Record in the silver service dinner (multiple venues) category. The Hawaii resorts were excited to promote Thailand as a major travel destination. Wailea Beach Marriott Wows Meeting Planners

In partnership with Alaska Airlines and Pleasure Island DMC, Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa hosted 15 meeting planners on a three-day familiarization tour of the resort and surrounding area. They were pampered with breakfast in bed, specially delivered by General Manager Bill Countryman! Here is Bill saying, "Aloha Kakahiaka," or "Good Morning" to Mike Avila of Pillar Data Corporation.

Lahaina town is steeped with history, and one of Maui's true gems. This Friday and Saturday, we hope our visitors and kama'aina alike will join us in celebrating the 2nd Annual Lahaina Plantation Days, a great family event that honors the thousands of people who worked for the old Pioneer Mill that closed its doors in 1999 after its 139-year tenure! Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa is pleased to support this event and the great work that the Lahaina Restoration Foundation continues to do in preserving and protecting Lahaina's historic character.

Arne Sorenson Receives an Aloha Surprise!

Marriott International President and Chief Operating Officer Arne Sorenson visited Marriott's Hawaii resorts. At Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, he was welcomed with a special surprise -- an aloha birthday greeting, lei and cake decorated with fresh, tropical orchids, on October 13th. Here's Waikiki Beach Marriott General Manager Mike Nisky, Mr. Sorenson, and Vice President of North Asia, Hawaii and South Pacific Chris Tatum.

Romance Peaks on 10/10/10 at Marriott in Hawaii

Here is the inside scoop on 10/10/10 happenings from JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa on Oahu and Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on Maui.

JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina held eight weddings on Sunday, nearly double their daily average, on 10/10/10. KHON-TV's Brianne Randall visited the resort and interviewed newly wed Robert and Lisa Mauracher who reside in Canada, and Raymond Donato, the resort's catering sales manager. Links to Literacy Raises $150,000 for Hawaii's Public Libraries!

It was a gorgeous sunny day with cool tradewinds at the 17th Annual Links to Literacy golf tournament, a benefit for the Friends of the Library of Hawaii, where more than 200 golfers teed up to raise $150,000 for Hawaii's 51 public libraries! The tournament was held on September 17th at Ko Olina Golf Club. Here are our partners Alan Yamamoto, Mike Nelson, Susan Li, Greg Nichols, Ann Fujioka, Chris Tatum, Mari Olson, Byrde Cestare, and Brenda Tome. Marriott Resorts Hawaii and Ko Olina Resort and Marina were the title sponsors of the event.

Travelocity Travel for Good Volunteer Day

As part of Travelocity’s annual partner conference, the Marriott Hawaii team composed of Kelvin Dale, director of market strategy, Alexander Pyhan, director of global eCommerce channels, and Alejandro Moxey, senior eCommerce manager, participated in “Travel for Good Volunteer Day”.  This year, the event took place in Orlando on September 21st, benefitting the Give Kids The World Village.

Chef Jayson Kanekoa Wins "The Great Waikoloa Poke Contest"!

Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa Sous Chef Jayson Kanekoa was named the winner of "The Great Waikoloa Poke Contest" held on September 4th on the Big Island of Hawaii! He masterfully prepared six pounds of poke (pronounced po-kay), fresh Hawaiian fish cut into cubes mixed with tasty seasonings and local ingredients, competing amongst the island's best hotel and restaurant chefs. He was declared the overall winner after taking first place in five of six categories.
