Romance Peaks on 10/10/10 at Marriott in Hawaii

Marriott Resorts Hawaii

As if picturesque Hawaiian sunsets, alluring white sand beaches, and fragrant Hawaiian flowers don't already spell "romance," the perfect 10/10/10 date made for the ultimate special occasion for many couples in Hawaii. Here is the inside scoop on 10/10/10 happenings from JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa on Oahu and Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on Maui.

JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina held eight weddings on Sunday, nearly double their daily average, on 10/10/10. KHON-TV's Brianne Randall visited the resort and interviewed newly wed Robert and Lisa Mauracher who reside in Canada, and Raymond Donato, the resort's catering sales manager. Tracy Flanagan leads the new Romance Center that was recently unveiled at the oceanfront Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. With 22 years of experience in the Maui wedding industry, she and the resort's event managers coordinate a variety of occasions, from weddings and vow renewals to proposals and romantic dinners. She has coordinated approximately 5,000 weddings, many of which were held at Wailea Beach Marriott.

On Sunday, there were two destination weddings at the resort. Toni Gabriel and Erik Kummer of San Antonio, Texas tied the knot at 10:00 a.m. amongst ten close family members. Jennifer Powell and Patrick VanZeipel from Portland, Oregon began planning their special day in November 2008 and had 45 guests attend their sunset wedding. Tracy estimates that 1,000 couples wed in Maui County alone on this day!

We asked Tracy for her take on top wedding trends for 2011:

On colors: “For 2011, sunset colors will rule, such as bright oranges, yellows, pinks and reds.”

On florals: “Adding green cymbidium and dendrobium orchids make a perfect combination. Against the bride’s white dress, the bouquet makes a splash of color.”

On tabletops: “Everyone is moving green! We love the natural feel of bamboo and cool greens. These can be incorporated with bamboo chivari chairs with silk cushions. Centerpieces with submerged florals and floating candles are popular. Using bamboo runners on the tables brings a sublime touch.”

On favors: “Lauhala boxes filled with a selection of cookies and ties with raffia and a sea shell make great favors. Another good one is chocolate covered macadamia nuts wrapped in ti leaves for good luck enhanced with fresh orchids.”

Here are a few images from Tracy of previous weddings held at Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.

Every American Dreams of Hawaii Hotels

When you're looking up Hawaii hotels on the internet, you may come across the White House's blog about President Obama's trip to Hawaii  Hotels aren't likely to be picked out by the first lady any more, after all the secret service might have some concerns about that.  It's curious to wonder what Hawaii hotels the first lady might choose? You can look through the photos of the president in Hawaii, in the ocean and even holding a rainbow colored shave ice that appears to be a foot tall, and then realize, it's not the White House's blog.
