WAILEA, MAUI, HAWAII – February 15, 2008 – Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa has designed a ho‘ailona, meaning logo or icon, to symbolize its commitment to providing guests with an authentic Hawaiian experience. The design pays homage to the beauty of the Wailea area and sacred tales passed through the generations.
“We are very proud to be launching our new logo to tie into our just completed $60 million renovation,” said John Jaskula, general manager of Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. “Our design is a true reflection of what our resort stands for and ties in perfectly with the uniqueness of this world class resort.”
The word Wailea is literally translated as “water of Lea.” Lea was the goddess of canoe builders. It is said that Lea disguised herself as the celebrated ‘elepaio bird to guide builders to healthy Koa trees for their canoes. If the builders spotted an ‘elepaio bird pecking at a tree, they knew the trunk was ridden with insects, therefore being unsuitable for use. But if a bird ignored a tree, they were assured it was healthy and strong. The feather of the ‘elepaio bird is featured in the resort’s ho‘ailona.
Another element of Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa’s ho‘ailona is the wave. The waters fronting the resort are said to be sacred, having provided sustenance to the Hawaiian people for hundreds of years. These days, the aqua blue seas are renowned for their beauty, enticing visitors worldwide to the resort’s distinctive shores. Its significance is also reflected by the metallic blue color of the ho‘ailona.
Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, which offers the best oceanfront location within the luxurious Wailea Resort destination, has just completed a $60 million transformation.
