Wailea, Maui, Hawaii – August 11, 2010 – With a tropical setting offering one of the best ocean and neighbor island views on Maui, the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa is the perfect venue for a new luau experience based on the sea. From the renowned Tihati Productions of Hawaii, the new "Te Au Moana" luau show celebrates the island of Maui with contemporary songs and hula.
Held at the resort’s luau grounds with a majestic view of the Pacific Ocean and Molokini island, "Te Au Moana" is performed every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, starting at 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival, each guest receives a fresh flower lei. They begin their evening enjoying live music and participating in interactive Hawaiian crafts such as lei making, coconut husking, hula dancing and kapa (bark cloth) printing.
Guests will also witness the unearthing of the imu, or underground oven, used to steam a whole pig for the traditional luau dish of kalua pork. The steamed kalua pig is freshly served in the buffet that evening. Other buffet items include imu kalua pork, teriyaki steak, shoyu (soy sauce) chicken, sautéed fresh mahi mahi with lemon butter, Molokai sweet potato, lomi lomi salad and poi. For dessert, guests will enjoy coconut haupia and more.
Following dinner, the talented performers of Tihati Productions showcase Polynesian songs and dances to tell the story of "Te Au Moana," the ocean tide. The hour-long show is told in three acts, from the legend of Maui to featured dances from Tahiti, Tonga and the Cook Island and ending with a celebration of contemporary song and hula including ukulele players and the captivating and dangerous fire knife dancers of Samoa.
Prices are $98 for adults and $53 for children (6-12 years) with free admission for children under 5 years. Complimentary self-parking for luau guests is available at the resort. For reservations and information on "Te Au Moana," please call 1-877-827-2740.
