HONOLULU, HAWAII – October 23, 2006 – Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) has named Charlene
Nakamura as director of national accounts for the company’s portfolio of Hawaiian
Islands hotels and resorts. She will report to Mark Barnes, area director of group sales,
Hawaiian Islands hotels and resorts. In her newly-created position, she will be
responsible for booking group business in the association market for the following five
resort hotels:
JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, Kaua‘i Marriott
Resort & Beach Club, Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa and Waikoloa Beach Marriott
Resort & Spa.
Nakamura has 17 years of related experience in the industry. Prior to joining Marriott,
she served as the national sales manager for the former Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel.
She also was a convention services manager for the Hawaii Visitors and Convention
Bureau.
She is a Certified Association Sales Executive (CASE) and is a member of the American
Society of Association Executives (ASAE), Aloha Society of Association Executives,
Greater Washington Society of Association Executives and Professional Convention
Management Association (PCMA) as well as the immediate past president of Meeting
Professional International (MPI).
Born and raised in Honolulu, she is a graduate of the University of Hawaii where she
received her bachelor’s degree in travel industry management. During her leisure time,
she enjoys golfing, playing tennis and watching her sons play baseball. |
