HONOLULU, Hawaii – April 4, 2008 – Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) has promoted
Mark Barnes to area director of sales and marketing for Hawaii. Barnes was previously
director of sales and marketing for the luxurious JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko
Olina for more than five years.
“Mark will now be using his expertise to benefit the entire cluster of five Marriott
resort hotels on the four major Hawaiian islands,” said Connie Flattery, area director of
sales and marketing - North Asia, Hawaii & South Pacific for Marriott International, Inc.
“He has done a tremendous job at JW Marriott Ihilani in promoting the upscale JW
Marriott brand and the luxury destination resort on Oahu.”
As area director of sales and marketing, Barnes will be responsible for overseeing
group sales, e-commerce and westbound travel tour wholesales. The Hawaii resorts he
will support include the newly rejuvenated 555-room Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort
& Spa and 545-room Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, as well as the 387-room JW
Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina, 1,310-room Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort &
Spa and 356-room Kaua’i Marriott Resort & Beach Club.
Barnes holds more than 22 years of sales and marketing experience with
Marriott. Prior to JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa, he served as director of national
accounts for Marriott and Renaissance Resorts Hawaii. He was also director of sales at
Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort on Maui and held positions at Scantion Conference
Center, Hotel & Resort and Denver Marriott City Center in Colorado.
Born in Los Angeles and raised in Southern California, Barnes holds a Bachelor
of Arts degree from the California State University, Long Beach.
