Pack for Paradise in Hawaii

June 29, 2016

Dreaming of travelling to Hawaii in the fall? Wondering what you might need for an island vacation?

This post is dedicated to highlighting the important necessities to make packing for paradise a breeze.

Your normal day-to-day attire is easy: shirts, shorts, tank tops, blouses, dresses, undergarments, and a pair of jeans or two to last you for the duration of your stay.

You’ll also want to pack one or two dressy outfits for an evening out or fancy dinner.

Thinking about visiting during November through December?

Pack a light jacket for the evenings as the temperature does in fact go below “a whopping” 75 degrees during our “winter” season.

During the rest of the year, no jacket needed!

Don’t forget about your toiletries and any medications you may need.

Most importantly and above everything else — don’t forget your ID! Missing your flight to Hawaii would not be a great way to start your vacation.

Here are a few other items I would highly suggest packing that you may not think about:

Many things you can purchase upon arrival: sunscreen, aloha attire, a straw hat, beach inflatables, snorkel gear, and towels so don’t waste space in your luggage on those.

(Stay tuned for our upcoming post on retail stores in Hawaii where you can find these items.)

Save that extra space for all your souvenirs and local treats to take back home!

After sharing some of the things you should pack, here are a couple items we would suggest NOT bringing:

  • Overly fancy clothes – one outfit is great, but Hawaii is known for its casual dress code and you’ll most likely be spending a majority of your time outdoors so you’ll want to be comfortable.
  • Work – unless you absolutely HAVE to do work, you should be in full relaxation mode when you’re in Hawaii! Minimize your time spent checking emails and spend it soaking up the sun instead.
  • Expensive jewelry/electronics – you don’t want your trip to paradise to be ruined by losing something valuable or sentimental, so it’s best to leave these at home.
