Top reasons to celebrate in Hawaii!

Canada has been in the news with the upcoming Canada 150 celebrations. After enjoying the festivities at home, Canadians can plan ahead to escape the cold in the fall and winter months and head to Hawaii!

Hawaii is like heaven on earth. The weather is warm, the beaches are inviting, the tropical foliage adds color to inspire artistry, and there are culinary delights everywhere to savor and sample around the islands.

Happy #Canada150! Proud to be a Canadian? Of course! Now is the time to discover Hawaii, and we will turn you into a local in a week once you experience our top reasons why Canadians would love Hawaii:

#1 – If you like Poutine, try our Loco Moco. The traditional Loco Moco consists of white rice topped with a hamburger patty, a fried egg and brown gravy. There are many varieties. At Beach House at the Moana, the Ultimate Loco Moco starts with an 8 ounce Wagyu patty, add seared Foie Gras, bone marrow Furikake rice, Spam, Sriracha Bordelaise, and the sunny side up egg. Gently poke the egg and let the yolk ooze over the rice. Now you’re ready!

#2 – Enjoy pancakes and maple syrup?  Try The Royal Hawaiian’s Pink Palace Pancakes topped with Guava Raspberry Shortcake, Balsamic Strawberry Relish, Coconut Kaffir Crème. You’ll need an extra napkin for sure.

#3 – Anyone hungry for Ketchup Fries?  On Maui, ask any local about our Maui Sweet Onion Chips. Grown on the slopes of Haleakala, our sweet Maui onions are known for their mild, sweet flavor; the sweetness is due to the perfect amount of sunshine and rainfall combined with the richness of the volcanic soil.   Finger licking and seconds allowed!

    • In Waikiki, for fancy connoisseurs, ask for our Trout Roe (Vintage 1901 at the Moana Surfrider) smoked crème fraiche Nori Potato Chips. You’ll discover a new world of flavor when you bite into this. Start crunching!

#4 – Show me the bacon! We know Canadians love bacon!  On the island of Kauai, at The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas Nanea Restaurant and Bar, our Kalua Pork Eggs Benedict was featured on USA Today. Our Director of Food & Beverage, Jason Sessions, describes this dish as follows: “Kalua pig is a staple item for locals,” he says. “You’ll see it on lunch plates and luaus and everything in between. We wanted to create a dish that would resonate with kama‘āina (island residents) but also introduce our visitors to some local favorites. Lilikoi, or passion fruit, is a sweet, tart flavor that pairs well with the smokiness of the kalua pork, resulting in a heartier dish than the traditional benedict, and incorporat[ing] both sweet and savory flavors.” Say Aloha Kakahiaka (good morning) and follow the fumes of the sizzling bacon to Nanea Restaurant!
