6th Anniversary Blessing at Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas
The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas celebrated its 6th Anniversary on May 2, 2014.
This day also marked the completion of two kahili, or feathered standards, which were created by the resort’s associates, owners and guests under the guidance of Shad Kane, a Hawaiian cultural expert and practitioner.
The Kahili will continue to adorn the resort lobby to welcome guests from here forward. For the Hawaiian people, kahilis were traditionally used as a form of communication; the feathers depicted a chief’s status and lineage.
In a similar sense, the resort’s Kahili project was a means for our entire Westin Princeville ohana (family) to come together, share stories and learn more about the Hawaiian culture.
For our anniversary, “Uncle” Shad leads the resort associates in a procession while chanting a traditional Hawaiian oli (chant) announcing the group’s arrival.
A response is provided by Karlyn Sukehira to welcome the group inside (Aloha mai). Kapule Kaona offers a pule (prayer), followed by the blessing of na kahili.
Mahalo to our associates, owners and guests who helped to create Na Kahili and joined us for this special occasion.
